Professional Disclosure Statement

John Stuker
School Counselor | Advocate | Joke-Teller

I am a school counselor with a Master of Arts in School Counseling from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS), and I also hold a Master of Arts in Political Science from Marquette University. This unique academic foundation empowers me to serve students holistically—fostering their academic success, personal growth, and civic awareness. Importantly, and currently, I have yet to obtain my license to be an official LSC, though I plan on taking the steps necessary to be fully licensed in the near future.

Despite being at the moment an unlicensed school counselor, I still proudly adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards of practice set forth by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and follow the legal and professional expectations set both here in the State of Colorado and nationwide. As such, I believe in advocating for all students, regardless of their background or needs,, to be brought to the able. I'm also deeply committed to creating safe, inclusive, and empowering environments for all students. I also view collaboration with families, teachers, and community stakeholders as essential to student success.

Services may include:

Individual and small group counseling

Academic planning and goal setting

Crisis response and intervention (SRAs, assisting admin teams with VRAs)

Career and college readiness guidance (ICAP)

Classroom guidance lessons

Referrals to community resources*

*Please note that as a school counselor, I am not a licensed mental health therapist. While I am trained to provide short-term counseling and crisis support within the school setting, I may recommend outside therapeutic resources when longer-term or clinical support is needed. Schools are often inherently short on both time and resources to provide for their hundreds of students, and there may come a time and place where outside referrals are the appropriate course of action to take.

Despite the limited role school counseling may have when talking with students compared to a bona fide mental health provider, I'm still bound by a (legal and ethical) professional obligation to take confidentiality seriously. I seek to honor and maintain student privacy to the best of my ability while understanding that, as a mandatory reporter, there are specific situations, such as concerns involving harm to self or others, abuse, or legal requirements, where information must be shared with the appropriate parties.

I could not be more grateful to be part of this meaningful profession and excited to support the development and success of every student I serve.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
